Couples usually choose to take couples therapy as a last resort in India, after having tried various things to make their relationship better. Therefore, many couples come to therapy in a very fragile state. Usually, two biggest reasons for couples to face recurrent conflicts in their relationship are emotional incompatibility and attachment issues. Each partner's perception of emotions matters a lot and if two partners hold contrarian views on this, it can cause a lot of conflict within a relationship.
I use tools, techniques and interventions offered by the Gottman Method. However, I don't follow the method to the letter. I combine psychodynamic, attachment focussed and emotion focussed therapy with the Gottman Method in my treatment of couples in distress. I have a Certification in Trauma Informed Care. I am also Level 1 Trained in IFS or Internal Family Systems Therapy.
The process looks like this:
1. Either/both partners write to me at email@example.com
2. I share details about therapy such as time duration and fee structure
3. Each partner fills out a form
4. I have a free of charge 30 minutes video session with either or both partners to discuss what therapy might look like and to understand their concerns better
5. We start therapy
Note: Couples therapy is not a short term process. It would take at least three months of therapy to feel and experience change and transformation within the relationship.
