About
My approach with couples is delivered with care, honesty & confidence in Gottman strategies, proven to build strong, committed & trusting relationships. Couples have described the therapy experience as safe and restful...so much energy can be used to sustain a marriage steeped in conflict or misunderstanding.
My aim is to help cultivate an experience of a difference, that breaks the cycle of disconnection/contempt & supports couples to increase their awareness of untapped inner & shared strengths & resources.
With the Gottman method as the compass, couples build communication & conflict repair skills, empathy, trust, intimacy & a sense of "we".
My long history of working with families greatly influences my interest & practice as a marriage counsellor. Parental relationships offer the first template for children's relationships, impacting their ability to self-regulate, cope with stress and develop good mental health.
My passion for couple work was first lit by my love of children & their dependency on the health of the environment around them.
My professional background...
I am a registered clinical counsellor & registered art therapist, university instructor & clinical supervisor. I provided mental health services in various roles since 1990 and am the Director of the Family Hope Clinic & SBOT award recipient for Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 for Women in Surrey.
I specialize in the area of Self-Care for Professional Helpers/Counsellors & my research was highlighted at the 2015 Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association Conference.
I actively volunteer my time in the community & am both the Past President of the Canadian Mental Health Association Board of Directors South Fraser Region & Community Member for the Youth Advisory Committee that reports to the Langley Township Council & Mayor. I collaborated on the CYMHSU LAT to help improve youth mental health.
