Love and Sex expert? Hmm. Well, ever since my first kiss, and through some epic love stories and love disasters, I’ve studied relationships from the inside and the outside. Really, I’m just a hopeless romantic who wants to know how we can create lifelong passion with our sweetheart.

In terms of my traditional training, I received my Masters and Ph.D degrees in Clinical Psychology from Simon Fraser University. I then was accepted to the University of California-San Francisco medical school for a two-year internship and post doctoral program as a Fulbright Scholar. I conducted research on sexual behaviour and attitudes, and combatting homophobia. Then I headed to India to study meditation and Buddhist psychology. Eventually I returned to Canada and started my private practice, specializing in couples and sex therapy. I've also taught university psychology.

In addition to seeing individuals and couples in private practice, I entered into the media psychology field. I had a full-time talk radio show, giving dating and relationship advice, and appeared on many TV shows as a guest expert. In 2009 I created the Become Passion home study program, an 8-hour audio workshop to assist couples to create sustainable, lifelong emotional intimcay and sexual passion, and the Awakened Lover weekend, a love "bootcamp" for couples. Visit for more information and use the code Gottman to receive a discount on the audio workshop.

These days I am the relationships columnist for Mindful magazine, and I write about sex and relationships for other publications as well. Visit for samples of my work (check in the love and relationships section).I also teach meditation, mindfulness, Buddist classes, and meditation retreats. I find mindfulness practice is a key factor in mental, emotional, and relationship well-being.

My private practice is located in beautiful Maple Bay, Duncan on Vancouver Island. As a Registered Psychologist, my style is direct, perhaps a little out of the box, flavoured with humour and very much tailored to each couple. I utlize the Gottman method, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and mindfulness techniques. If I were to sum up my overall philosophy, I'd say that I try to assist couples to rewrite their love story, mindfully.
