Couples counseling doesn't have to be all drudgery! There is a lot of energy in the room in a couples session, and my goal is to channel the energy in a productive and meaningful way. With over 15 years of experience, my approach to therapy begins with a thorough understanding of the problem. Infidelity, destructive cycles of communication, loss of shared goals, or emotional distance each require specific interventions, and I tailor my approach to your unique situation. Once we all understand and agree on the problems, we can begin to work on skills, communication, and most importantly, reconnection to each other.
I use a combination of Gottman, Sue Johnson's Emotionally Focused Therapy, Imago, and Pragmatic Experiential Training. These approaches share many features, yet each has its own strengths and I try to use the best of each approach.
I strive to keep the sessions interesting and might use some expressive arts interventions to help individuals who have difficulty recognizing or expressing their feelings.
At each step along the way, we will be checking in with each other to see how things are progressing and to measure change in the relationship. My goal is to help you make real changes, changes that "stick" beyond therapy.
You will find that I have a creative, engaged, and collaborative style. If you are struggling in your relationship and want to experience greater satisfaction, I hope that you will contact me.
