Couples typically combine their lives because—at some level—they feel better in each other's presence than they feel around anyone else. That feeling can deteriorate over time, however. The good news is that those feelings can be restored, with spouses or partners again feeling loved, respected, understood, protected, and connected.

Relationships have patterns, and within a couple's pattern are practices that are effective for forming close relational bonds and practices that are ineffective for forming such bonds. Those practices can be identified, the effective ones strengthened, and the ineffective ones replaced. I would love to help you discover your particular pattern, and to strengthen your bond.

In my counseling approach, I incorporate thirty years of interdisciplinary experience, including social work, pastoral ministry, and counseling. Your counseling session will be informed by Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy, trauma informed therapy, Enneagram understanding, an understanding of spiritual formation (included according to your interest), and personal experience from my own forty-year marriage.

In addition to couples therapy, I periodically lead the Gottman Institute programs: "The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work," and "Bringing Baby Home." These are great opportunities to learn Dr. Gottman's research-based principles in an educational format with practical applications.
