About

Hi, I’m Dr. Casey Gutierrez—a Licensed Professional Counselor (TX & CO) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (TX). I hold a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy and have spent the past decade as a psychotherapist, clinic supervisor, and nonprofit mental health leader. Earlier in my career, I served as a school counselor and in the military for ten years, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. These experiences shaped how I understand trauma, resilience, and the emotional strain that impacts relationships.

I work with couples experiencing conflict, disconnection, betrayal, or a desire to reconnect. I use the Gottman Method (Levels 1–3) along with advanced training in trauma, addiction, affairs, and recovery. I help partners rebuild trust, improve communication, deepen friendship, and navigate painful histories. I also draw from Bowen Family Systems Theory to explore how multigenerational patterns and and anxiety shape how couples/families respond to each other today.

My approach is structured, warm, and nonjudgmental. Whether we’re addressing emotional shutdown, intimacy issues, or communication breakdowns, I aim to foster clarity, care, and mutual understanding.

In addition to couples therapy, I work with families and parents. I use Child-Centered Play Therapy and Child-Parent Relationship Therapy for children ages 2–8 to support regulation, expression, and stronger communication between parent and child. I also help co-parents navigating divorce or shared custody build healthy frameworks for collaboration. My role is to support caregivers in creating emotionally safe homes—without judgment or power struggles.

If you’re looking for a couples or family therapist who brings experience, structure, and deep respect to the work, I’d be honored to connect. Therapy doesn’t have to be cold or clinical—it can be grounded, hopeful, and even transformative.
