Hi! In couples therapy, I help couples shift their unhelpful interactional patterns. We will look at what keeps you stuck and how to build new habits, improving areas like shared meaning, connectedness, and collaboration, while working through and reducing conflict.
Couples issues I work with include: conflict, boundary issues, communication problems, lack of shared meaning, role problems, co-/parenting issues, sexual issues, unhelpful dynamics (e.g., pursuer/distancer or over-functioning/under-functioning pattern), outside stressors, loyalty binds (e.g., with step-kids or in-laws) or coalitions with third parties.
Apart from regular couples therapy, I offer discernment counselling for married couples, where one spouse leaning out of the marriage and one is leaning in. Discernment counselling has a maximum of 5 sessions. The goal is to gain clarity and confidence about a direction for your relationship, based on a deeper understanding of your marriage and each partner's contributions to the problems. You will discern between three paths (maintain status quo, divorce, an effort of reconciliation with all-in couples therapy).
I am also an individual therapist, working with client's relational issues (i.e., working on improving their relationships) and mental health issues.
I'm a clinical psychologist and a member of the Australian Psychological Association (MAPS). I hold a master's and PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) in Psychology from University of Marburg, Germany. In addition, I hold German state licences in clinical psychology as a Psychological Psychotherapist and Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist.
I work in English and German. I speak, but don't work in Spanish.
I acknowledge the Custodianship of Gadigal and Wallumedegal people on the Countries I work on and pay respect to their Elders past and present.
