As a wife, a mother, and a counselor I believe that relationships provide us with the best joys and the greatest challenges. I also believe that many of us struggle with some of the harsh conditions of life. I think that for the most part we are all doing the best we can and when life pushes us a little too hard, we may need help. I see myself as a "fellow traveler" helping my clients find their own answers and gain strength to move forward in their journey.
I draw from several different therapeutic approaches but favor Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a modification of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). DBT combines principles of mindfulness, CBT, and the support needed to learn and practice balancing acceptance and change. I also work from a family system and experiential perspective and value collaboration. When I work with couples, I prefer the highly researched and effective Gottman Couples Therapy. I have completed the Level 3 Practicum Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate and a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern currently working under the supervision of Marvarene Oliver, Ed.D., LPC-S, LMFT-S.
