About

I see clients in my Canberra practice and run intensive counselling weekends for couples at my private and purpose built retreat near Bermagui, South Coast NSW.

I work only with couples in relationship counselling and mediation - finding that specialising this way keeps me focused and up to date with this challenging work.

I have completed level 3 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, level three training in Sue Johnson’s Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and am an accredited Mediator with the Australian Attorney Generals Department.

I have post-graduate qualifications in sociology, grief, loss and trauma counselling and mediation. I have specialist training in blended family dynamics, in pre-marriage preparation, and in Bill Doherty’s discernment counselling for individuals and couples trying to work out if they want to stay together. I worked for Australia’s lead Relationship Counselling Agency for 6 years, and have worked with hundreds of couples experiencing conflict in their relationship.

Good counselling can help you reconnect. It might help you stop seeing only the worst, and to once again see your spouse as someone to be truly valued and desired, even with all their faults. This might sound far-fetched but when counselling helps couples to reconnect emotionally, the results can sometimes be magical. It is equally true, however, that ill-conceived relationship counselling can be problematic – setting up triangles, leaving one person feeling like a scapegoat, opening up old wounds and doing nothing to soothe them.

My initial training in life was in Commerce, and I worked in both business and education before entering the human services field. This means I bring a broad range of life experience to understanding the complexities of couples' unique situations and pressures. I am just as comfortable in understanding couples' most complex financial situations as I am in working with the impact of serious family-of-origin trauma on couple dynamics.

I am sensitive, warm and empathic and completely dedicated to the transformational power that great relationships can have on individuals, families and communities. I am down to earth, have a good sense of humour and you will sit and listen to you for as long as it takes for you to feel heard and understood.
