My therapeutic belief is that YOU are the expert in your life, and I respect this at all times. Individual and Couples counselling is always a collaborative process in my office. I often describe myself as a 'coach' for couples rather than a therapist; I am always rooting for you to succeed and for you to succeed I must not be the centre pole holding everything up. In my office couples will primarily interact with one another rather than with me, this is so that the skills are more easily applied in everyday life. My goal is to set you up for success, never failure.
My therapeutic approach is described by clients as kind, warm, fair, and honest. My background in education allows me to teach, model, and observe couples to achieve positive and effective communication. I find this is also helpful when using psycho-education within individual sessions.
While the Gottman method is what I use primarily with relationship issues, I also draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), and Narrative Therapy among others.
