About
I’m bi-lingual (Mandarin/English), and my work stands out in FOUR UNIQUE ASPECTS:
(1) In addition to the Gottman method, I'm a Certified Hakomi Therapist, and I have in-depth training in other highly impactful couple therapy approaches such as The Developmental Model by The Couples Institute and Terry Real’s Real Life Therapy. I also use tools from EFT, Collaborative Couple Therapy, DBT, PACT and somatic experiencing. My work seeks to be (a) collaborative, (b) compassionate and (c) highly experiential. See my website for how my work reflects these core elements.
(2) My prior career with the corporate world (law firms, investment banking and startup/ventures) has offered me lived experience and understanding of the pressure and uncertainties in today's work/life dynamics and their impact on couples/families.
(3) I bring a deep cultural sensitivity about race, culture, immigration, and multigenerational trauma to my work with racial minorities, bi-racial couples and mixed-race families. Living and working in diverse cultures and places of the world has also cultivated my capacity for compassion, empathy and curiosity.
(4) My experience with grief and transition is invaluable in my work with couples to process past traumas, chronic hurt, lost dreams, long-term disappointments and shattered trust and to cultivate the hope for a “relationship 2.0.” I'm also attuned to the stress and challenges of significant transitions in relationships and their often different impact on each partner.
In Chinese, the word “crisis” comprises of two characters: 危 (danger) and 机 (opportunity), symbolizing the two interrelated sides of the same experience. And that's what I believe: That human beings are fundamentally resourceful. It is through understanding our struggles that we come to deeply appreciate our strengths and desires and expand capacity to explore new paths. Our struggles are an essential part of our growth.
