Regence, Reliant Behavioral Health
My passion in life is Family. Raising our 3 amazing children with my wonderful husband has been, along with my practice, deeply satisfying for me. Although trained as a Family Therapist, I soon realized that a strong marriage is crucial to the development of healthy children. I knew I needed something more to assist my clients.
I first saw John Gottman lecturing on Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child in 2000, and when I discovered, in addition, his pivotal work with Couples, I knew I had found my mentor. After gaining Cottman certification, I finally was able to facillitate substantive change in the couples I see, and concomittantly, make a difference in families.
I augment my practice with Motivational Interviewing techniques. Many clients realize at some level, that they know what they need, and resist being told by an external source. In MI, we use a method of questioning to elicit the internal potential for healing. The therapist is not the source of truth, but rather a companion on the journey.
I derive a deep sense of meaning from being a witness to the growth of individuals, couples, and families. Using the Gottmans' research and methods, I am more capable of being an agent of change in this process.
