Our intimate relationships can be both the source of great pain, and of our most profound joy. Helping couples move from stalemate and anger towards collaboration and connection is a privilege and fits with my values. Using Gottman tools, I help couples navigate difficult times in their relationship, whether it be the birth of a child, a serious illness or loss, or an infidelity. Initially, I am often like a translator, helping your partner hear and understand the feelings and needs you have been trying to express, but haven't been able to get your partner to hear or understand. As you learn and practice the Gottman tools, you will begin to speak and listen in new ways, and over time will no longer need a translator because you will be able to productively speak to each other. I help couples learn to effectively advocate for what they need in their relationships, and to understand and change what is blocking them from meeting their partner's needs. As each person gets better at giving and receiving, and more skillful at navigating conflict, couples become closer and happier. Many couples come to therapy with deep hurts and unresolved, endlessly repeating conflicts. Therapy can help heal these wounds and replace bitter conflict with understanding and compromise. My ultimate goal is to get you to a place where you have all the skills and emotional resilience you need to have the kind of relationship that makes home feel like a true shelter instead of another source of stress and disappointment.
