Therapy works! Over 40 years of research conducted by The Gottman Institute and 30 years of parallel studies by Dr. Sue Johnson, founder of Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), have consistently shown this. The Gottman Method and EFT are considered to be the most current and effective ways we know to help couples create healthy, lasting relationships, and to heal those that are ailing.
These are the two approaches I have used for over 10 years to help the couples that come to me.
Couples often seek my help in making the following positive changes: improved communication, reduction in conflict, emotional connection, emotional safety, relationship stability and commitment, feeling heard & understood & seen, feeling validated in emotion & experience, increasing/repairing emotional & sexual intimacy, rebuilding trust, recovering from infidelity, and many other issues most of us experience in relationship.
Through our work together I help couples to better identify, experience, explore, make sense of, transform and manage their emotional experiences within the relationship. We see that core issues in relationships often involve couples experiencing some type of disconnection or distance that results in feeling emotionally unsafe, feeling insecure in the bond they have with their partner, and becoming unable to express their true feelings and experience of being with one another. These issues can show up insidiously as arguments, criticism, defensiveness, shutting down / stonewalling, turning away, and changes in sexual intimacy & passion.
Through counseling with me, couples reconnect, resulting in positive bonding events where partners begin to see each other more fully and are more authentic and compassionate with each other. Their connection empowers each of them and opens the door to all the benefits that come with a secure, healty relationship.
