Hello! I am Dr. Kara Kellison, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, and I am excited to share with you a little bit about myself and my therapy practice so you can determine if I might be an ideal fit for you. I have worked in a variety of settings after earning my PhD from Seattle Pacific University.
I work with both couples utilizing an evidence-based, process-based, cognitive-behavioral approach that includes mindfulness and acceptance-based treatments, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
I have completed the Level 3 Practicum Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and am in the Certification Track. My goal is to assist couples in enhancing their friendship, strengthen conflict management, explore shared meaning, deepen connection, and purposefully process past regrettable incidents.
Throughout therapy, I work with clients along the process of making necessary changes to live more fulfilling lives that are centered on their personal values and strengths.
Working with me will include a careful assessment of the relationship’s strengths and areas that need improvement before beginning treatment. This assessment and feedback will be completed over the first three appointments, which is in alignment with the Gottman Method Couples Therapy model. While it is normal to want to immediately move into treatment, it is like hitting the gas pedal before the GPS has come on line. The early investment in assessment facilitates a more direct approach throughout the remainder of the work.
