Hello! I am Dr. Kara Kellison, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, and I am excited to share with you a little bit about myself and my therapy practice so you can determine if I might be an ideal fit for your relationship. I predominately work with couples virtually which allows you to be in the comfort of your home while we meet. Meeting virtually removes barriers that can keep couples from engaging in regular sessions - no need to navigate traffic or parking.
I work with couples utilizing a research driven, process-based, cognitive-behavioral approach that includes mindfulness and acceptance-based treatments, and Gottman Method Couples Therapy. My goal is to work myself out of a job – meaning I approach the process in a manner that ensures your relationship does not become “therapy-dependent.”
My role is to assist partners in enhancing their friendship, strengthen conflict management, explore shared meaning, deepen connection, and purposefully process past pain, hurts, and betrayals. My goal is to help you achieve more fulfillment in the relationship.
Working with me will include a careful assessment of the relationship’s strengths and areas that need improvement before beginning treatment. This assessment and feedback will be completed over the first three appointments, which is in alignment with the Gottman Method Couples Therapy model. While it is normal to want to immediately move into treatment, it is like hitting the gas pedal before the GPS has come online. The early investment in assessment facilitates a more direct approach throughout the remainder of the work.
If this sounds hopeful, I encourage you to reach out so we can set up an initial session. I look forward to working with you.
Additional Options: 2 or 3 day in-person marathons, 3 or 4 hour intensive appointments, and Discernment Counseling.
