About
Unfortunately, at this time, I do not have openings for weekly therapy sessions. I continue to have time for intensive/marathon couples therapy.
I divide my time between Evanston, IL and Bellingham, WA. I offer in-person and Telehealth sessions, and a combination of the two.
Over the past 35 years, I have worked with couples and individuals from diverse backgrounds, with a wide range of concerns and goals, in a variety of contexts. I became the first certified Gottman Relationship Therapist in Illinois in 2005, and provided consultation to the first group of Chicago area therapists who became Gottman certified by 2008.
I approach therapy with empathy and respect, attempting to meet partners where they are and focus on areas most relevant to them. I draw upon contemporary psychoanalytic approaches, trauma theory, The Gottman Method, Collaborative Couples Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Couple Therapy. My style is often described as humanistic. I am known for my ability to empathize deeply with both partners, while helping them to face difficult conflicts.
I have traveled to Sri Lanka 22 times since the 2004 Tsunami to support lay counselors there in their work. I have a significant amount of experience working with Indian and Sri Lankan couples.
I was one of the first 5 Master Trainers chosen by The Gottman Institute. I regularly lead: The Art & Science of Love: A Weekend Workshop for Couples, and Gottman Level 1, 2, and 3 trainings for professionals. I have been a consultant for The Gottman Institue’s professional development program since 2006 and have helped 15 other therapists become Gottman certified.
I have interviewed for 30 plus articles, radio/tv programs, and podcasts for media outlets such as Business Insider on issues related to The Gottman Method.
I had the privilege of co-authoring a textbook chapter on recovery from betrayal with Drs. John & Julie Gottman in 2017.
