Dr. Michael E. Silverstein and his wife Laura Silverstein, who is a fully certified Gottman Therapist, are co-owners of Main Line Counseling Partners (MLCP), a group private practice in Bryn Mawr, PA. MLCP is a team of highly trained psychotherapists providing relief from relationship problems, depression, anxiety, addiction, OCD and stress. We offer individual therapy, child and family therapy, and both traditional and intensive couples counseling at our office in Bryn Mawr, PA, a suburb 20 minutes from Philadelphia.

While Main Line Counseling Partners launched in 2014, Michael and Laura Silverstein have been working together since 1995. Their partnership has always been grounded on a marriage between intuition and science, critical thinking and optimism, and a commitment to learning from the masters in the field. Michael and Laura Silverstein hired a -team of colleagues with similar passion and commitment to research-based methods and training.

Our clients get the right kind of help for their particular struggles. We are up to date with the latest recommended treatment models for guiding clients in reaching their goals. Our clinicians are warm, approachable and easy to talk to.

We utilize Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy including its "third wave" off-shoots such as Dialectic Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Relapse Prevention Therapy. Specialties include alcohol and other substance abuse problems, anxiety disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Men’s Issues, Career Development, relationship problems, affair recovery and other mental health difficulties. Visit our website for more information or to schedule a free consultation with Dr. Michael or Laura Silverstein.

Dr. Silverstein also believes that his clients are the experts in their own lives, and works with them to set specific, achievable goals. As human beings, we often already possess the solutions to our own problems without realizing it, and are unable to access or apply those solutions due to specific barriers such as anxiety, lack of resources and support, or simply not yet having learned the requisite skills.

He works collaboratively to create a safe and supportive environment for people who are feeling distress, and guides them to access their own answers and avoid previously hurtful thoughts and behaviors. He has a warm approachable demeanor along with an active style in which he encourages clients to become more comfortable trusting their emotions and intuitions.

In addition to over 20 years in private practice, Dr. Silverstein has a long history as a psychologist in a variety of settings, primarily University Counseling Centers. From 2005 – 2016, he was employed full-time as an Assistant Director and Coordinator of Training Services at Rowan University’s Counseling and Psychological Services in New Jersey. Prior to that, he served for eight years as Senior Psychologist and Training Coordinator at Temple University’s Tuttleman Counseling Center in Philadelphia. He has also held positions as Clinical Coordinator and Acting Director of partial hospital programs in Connecticut and at Belmont Center for Comprehensive Treatment in Philadelphia.

He possesses a keen interest in psychotherapy training and supervision, which has included constantly learning and growing from his work with graduate and post-graduate student interns. In addition to being licensed as a psychologist in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey, he holds the Certificate of Proficiency in the Treatment of Alcohol and other Substance Use Disorders from the American Psychological Association. He has a BA in History from Brown University, MA in Counseling from New York University, and MA and Ph.D degrees in Clinical Psychology from University of Connecticut (Go Huskies!).
