About

Couples intensives, also known as marathon therapy, are a concentrated form of couples counseling that Drs. John and Julie Gottman have practiced in their own clinical work. I specialize exclusively in this approach, helping couples who want to make substantial progress without spending months in traditional weekly therapy.

Rather than meeting for fifty minutes a week, we spend extended, uninterrupted time together identifying what's keeping you stuck, learning new ways to communicate, and putting those skills into practice. This format allows us to accomplish work in a day or weekend that might otherwise take many weeks of conventional therapy.

For couples seeking comprehensive work, I offer private one-, two-, and three-day intensives. Rather than asking you to decide how much therapy you need before we've met, I make a recommendation based on your relationship, concerns, and goals.

I specialize in helping couples recover from infidelity, betrayal, and broken trust. I also work with couples experiencing conflict, emotional disconnection, intimacy and sexual concerns, parenting and financial disagreements, grief, and extended-family challenges. I teach research-based principles and tools, then coach you in applying them to your own interactions.

My goal is not to keep you in therapy indefinitely. I want you to understand your relationship, recognize the patterns that get you into trouble, and develop skills you can continue using on your own.

My style is direct, warm, and often funny. I'm empathetic but also a straight shooter, and I'll always let you know what I think.

I offer in-person couples intensives at my offices in Overland Park, Kansas, serving the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, and Reston, Virginia, serving Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. I also provide telehealth services to couples throughout Kansas, Missouri, and Virginia, and travel for private intensives when appropriate.
