I see clients M T Th F and some weekends.
I am considered an an "out of network" provider and paid by PPO insurance plans. Payment is due at the time of service, but we will bill your insurance so you can be reimbursed as a courtesy.
~I believe we are happiest when our consciousness about ourselves and our world is growing, when our relationships are kindly, full of laughter, and secure, and when we are doing work that's stimulating and enjoyable.~
I offer individual, marital, pre-marital, relationship, and divorce recovery psychotherapy, groups, and workshops. I'm certified in Gottman Couple's Therapy, as an Art & Science of Love (Gottman) Workshop Leader, and as a Gottman Method Level I Teacher. I'm also certifed in EMDR, am a longtime teacher/trainer of Voice Dialogue, and have training in Emotion-Focused Therapy and Imago work. My original training was in cognitive-behavioral therapy. I am client-centered and my perspective is generally holistic/transpersonal.
Since the work of therapy, itself, can seem pretty daunting, I prefer to work in more casual (than formal) surroundings. My office resembles a comfortable living room/library and my very sociable, allergy-friendly, non-shedding dogs come to work with me every day. I suspect that, for some clients, they may be more therapeutic than I am!
Because I love teaching and mentoring and working with others, I supervise a Marriage & Family Intern and my partner, another Clinical Psychologist (who specializes in Emotion-Focused Therapy, grief, loss, and chronic and catastrophic illness) supervises a Social Work Intern. In addition, we have an LCSW who specializes in kids, adolescents, and parenting, and we have a Neurofeedback Specialist on staff.
I work with adult individuals and couples and, periodically, I do workshops and groups. Generally, I do a 5-hour introductory workshop on the Gottman 7 Principles every quarter and I do a Voice Dialogue training at least twice a year.
My doctoral research was on types of romantic love and I work with all kinds of relationships; straight, gay, lesbian, living together or apart. At Chapman University (where I taught part-time for 20+ years), I taught Human Sexuality, Romantic Love, and other general psychology undergraduate classes, and Sexual Disorders & Treatment and Chemical Dependency Treatment at the graduate level.
I see individuals with relationship problems, affairs, divorce recovery, anxiety, trauma, and depression. I do pre-marital/pre-relationship counseling as well.
I offer extended session and marathon couple's therapy.
