I have been working with individuals, couples and families for nearly 10 years in community mental health agencies, medical clinics and school settings in the tri-state area. In May of 2023, I opened my own private practice, New Perspectives Counseling Services LLC in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I work primarily with high school age individuals, adults and elders providing in-person as well as HIPPA compliant teletherapy services.
The "framework" or "lens" in which I work out of is Family Systems Therapy. I look at how relationships, interactions, dynamics and patterns in the family system and larger social systems may be playing a role and impacting presenting problems, symptoms and contributing to mental health disorders. I also integrate other therapy models/modalities into treatment when appropriate including CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Person Centered and Gottman Method Couples Therapy (when working with couples).
I strive to help individuals achieve greater self-awareness and insight as well as help individuals process and work through the various problems or issues that bring them into therapy. I want to help clients reduce or eliminate symptoms, increase functioning and teach them effective coping skills for managing symptoms and maintaining positive changes.
Some of the relational problem areas I help couples navigate include affairs or betrayals and increasing positive interactions and improving communication. I also help couples learn how to “fight fair,” manage conflict effectively and develop greater emotional connection and intimacy. I am a Level 2 Trained Gottman Method Couples Therapist.
