I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years' experience. In my work with couples, I help them develop an awareness of the dynamics and internal forces that affect their interactions. Recognition of such forces help couples free themselves from gridlocked patterns of conflict or disengagement. The result is a relationship in which each partner feels better known and understood, which de-escalates conflict and leads to intimacy. I emphasize the positive aspects of interactions by highlighting each partner’s attempts to connect with one another.

I have found the Gottman Method to be invaluable in my work with couples. The Method provides the research-based tools and structure with which to address and repair problems in the relationship. Successful relationships are not without problems; they're successful because each partner has developed mechanisms for coping with challenges in the relationship. They still fight – every couple fights sometimes – but they learn to fight without doing damage to the relationship, and may even find they've learned something new about each other in the process.

When a couple develops effective communication skills, they decrease feelings of resentment, create healing for old wounds, and create a stronger and more loving relationship.
