I am board certified in clinical psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, a fellow of the American Academy of Clinical Psychology, and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco.
In addition to having a clinical practice, I write psychology textbooks for college students, which has given me a real appreciation for the science of psychology and what research can teach us about how to improve our lives. I strive to give clients as many psychological “tools” as they can use in order to improve their lives. That’s why I was drawn to the Gottman Method Couples Therapy: it is based on decades of research on couples, and the method provides couples with many tools to improve their connection and communication, and to manage conflict in a way that causes less hurt and more mutual understanding.
I’ve been in practice for over 25 years, and along the way have developed expertise treating in a range of problems including various forms of anxiety, depression, eating disorders, sexual dysfunctions and psychological issues related to infertility. I have had training in a variety of types of psychotherapy including cognitive-behavioral therapy, family therapy, and psychodynamic therapy, and I have been certified in clinical hypnosis.
