Relationships matter. So does the way we understand them.
Even strong relationships can go through difficult periods.
Over time, couples can become caught in patterns of criticism, defensiveness, withdrawal, resentment or emotional disconnection. Sometimes the problem is not simply what couples argue about, but the underlying cycle they have developed together.
Relationship therapy provides an opportunity to slow that cycle down, understand what is happening beneath the conflict and develop healthier ways of relating.
I work with couples:

• loss of intimacy
• difficulties rebuilding trust
• major relationship and life transitions i.e. retirement, illness

A Gottman-informed approach
My relationship work incorporates Level Three Gottman training, drawing on the Gottman approach to understanding friendship, communication, conflict and the emotional foundations of a healthy relationship.
The aim is not to determine who is right or wrong.
It is to help couples understand the pattern they have become caught in and develop more constructive ways of responding to one another.
Sometimes couples come to therapy because they are in crisis.
Sometimes they come because they don't want their relationship to reach crisis point.
Both are valid reasons to seek support.
