With you as a couple, I'll want to learn from you where you are stuck in your relationship, and what your dreams and goals are in your lives, and together. I'll work with you to tailor our therapy to be most effective and satisfying for the two of you.
After building a picture of your current relationship through the initial assessment sessions, we will turn to what you most need and want to work on. This often includes improving your friendship, mutual respect, and conflict regulation skills; learning to work with the really difficult problems you are stuck on and decrease painful interactions; and rediscovering your shared meanings, values and dreams. Within the growing safety of therapy, couples rediscover how to see and be seen by each other, experiencing moments of precious connection that grow and flourish over time.
Some people come to couples therapy to help learn whether or not they can stay together successfully, and I am happy to help you become more clear about what could be possible in your future, whether it is as a couple, or apart. From there we can choose to dive in to the hard yet satisfying work of therapy to build a strong relationship, or to comfortably negotiate and craft separate but respectful paths.
My greatest enjoyment and fulfillment in therapy is working hard with couples on the path towards intentional, mindful connection with one another. I look forward to assisting you in developing a relationship that nourishes and enriches your life journey, and witnessing the experience of your growth together.
Individual therapy is also part of my practice, for those not in couples therapy with me. See my websites for more information.
About me: Part of the original group of therapists who trained with John Gottman since the 1990s, I bring a rich understanding, from many sources, of the meaning and value of connection in relationships.
