Communicating with your partner in ways that strengthen the trust and intimacy of your relationship takes work. Having a safe space to explore relationship concerns with a non-judgmental and supportive therapist can make a difference. Couple therapy is a process of honesty about yourself, and also sensitivity and curiosity about your partner.
As a couple therapist, I listen to each of your unique histories, ways of making meaning, styles of coping with stress, and patterns of interacting with each other. I support you each in conversations that allow for deeper understanding into areas that initially feel like challenges, but may prove to be opportunities for connection. These dialogues are tailored to promote admiration and deeper understanding between partners.
I am trained in Gottman Method Couple Therapy, Level 2, and I utilize this approach in my work with couples. Gottman Method Couple Therapy is a research based approach created from longitudinal studies conducted by John Gottman of the interaction patterns between partners. From those studies, John and Julie Gottman developed this approach to therapy designed to support the types of interactions found in relationships that thrive over the long run, and to mitigate the types of interactions that result in disconnection and strife. As a part of our work together, you will complete an assessment process based on Gottman research that will identify the strengths and challenges in your relationships. Once this initial phase is complete, I will guide our therapy together to support your growth as a couple, to build on your strengths and begin to heal in those areas that create challenges in your relationship.
