This is some of the most common and most painful territory I work with. And it’s more workable than it feels right now.

What makes these conversations so hard is usually shame. When one partner is grieving an identity and the other is overwhelmed and invisible, the practical conversations can’t happen. The resentments build. The distance grows. Both people keep waiting for the other to say the thing neither of them knows how to say.

Using Gottman Method tools I help couples slow that cycle down, get underneath the shame to what’s actually going on, and have the conversations that have been waiting. We look honestly at what each person needs now, not what the roles used to dictate, and figure out what a partnership that actually fits your life today could look like.
