About

You excel in demanding areas of life. Complex problems, high-stakes decisions, unrelenting pressure. You know how to push through and succeed. Yet the patterns in your relationship refuse to respond to the same logic or effort. Those skills fall flat. The harder you work, the more entrenched things become. You may be exhausted, lonely even when you are together, quietly wondering whether this is simply how it is going to be.
It does not have to be.
I'm Travis Atkinson, LCSW, LICSW. I specialize in couples caught in recurring conflict, emotional distance, or cycles of hurt that feel unsustainable. These are thoughtful, high-functioning people. The issue is rarely motivation or intelligence. Relationships operate by different rules.
Practicing since 1995. Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist (2006), Certified Schema Therapist (2008), Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist (2010). Trained directly with Jeffrey Young and Sue Johnson. With me, you get three evidence-based models in one, with Gottman as the foundation. Schema therapy targets chronic issues blocking relationship satisfaction. Emotionally focused therapy helps couples do together every day what Gottman's masters of relationships do.
We start with Gottman Connect, then go deeper with individual sessions and tools that identify lifelong patterns most therapists miss. By the Feedback and Goal Setting session, there is a clear picture of what is happening between you and why. From there, we build goals that target the source, not just the symptoms. Nothing cookie-cutter. Change that lasts.
Many couples have tried therapy before without lasting change. They often feel hopeful again. Not from false reassurance, but because they finally make sense of what's getting in their way and have a clear path forward.
I also specialize in neurodiverse couples (ADHD, ASD, OCPD), where standard approaches often miss what's really happening.
