About

Dr. J.Frank Batkins is a Georgia Licensed Psychologist and a Nationally Certified Couple & Family Psychologist with the American Board of Couple & Family Psychology. He was the East Coast Evaluator for new Candidates for Board certification and President during ABCFP’s nascent years as well. Frank has trained in the Gottman and Sue Johnson Methods of Marital therapy for which he has great appreciation. Using a Systems approach and Gottman’s 7 Principles as guides Dr. Batkins applies the most viable, evidenced based interventions indicated from individualized client treatment plans and standardized assessments. In particular, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and the Gottman Relationship Checklist might be used to design a path toward a healthier person, couple or family using interventions from Gottman’s checklist, Skills from Dialectic Behavior therapy(DBT) and techniques from Cognitive Behavior Therapy(CBT) or even referrals to others as indicated to assist the priortized family unit toward more effective functioning.
A youth focused Clinical Internship at the University of Alabama in Birmingham helped Frank Sharpen his skills and he has never stopped seeking to better serve his clients by training and working with world class teachers and founders of evidenced based methods. While serving a joint appointment at Winthrop and South Carolina Universities he discerned that teaching, while fulfilling, was not his primary passion-therapy was; and It is to that goal that Dr. Batkins has dedicated his professional-life without waver.
To this end, J. Frank Batkins, PhD, ABPP, has been honored by the Georgia Psychological Association for his lifetime of unceasing pro bono work and Who’s Who in America, also, recognized his leadership in and contributions to psychology.
