New Class Starting April 10th!
In addition to couples therapy, I am now offering a six week class for couples who want to deepen their intimacy, improve communication, and strengthen their friendship. Based on Dr. John Gottman's 40 years of research on what successful couples are doing differently, this class meets from 7-8:30 pm for six consecutive weeks in Bellingham, Washington. Couples who have taken the class say that it is less threatening than therapy, and a fun way to learn communication skills to strengthen their relationships. My greatest joy as a therapist comes from seeing couples finally achieving the relationship they've been longing for, but never dreamed possible. I chose to become a Certified Gottman Therapist because I want to provide the most effective treatment for the couples that I work with. The Gottman method is research-based and empirically supported. It gives couples the tools they need to communicate their dreams, fears, longings, needs, and frustrations in a way that can be heard and understood by their partner.
I have also received extensive training in Emotion Focused therapy, which focuses on increasing an intimate, secure bond in the relationship. I find this to be a wonderful supplement to the Gottman Method.
My therapeutic style is compassionate, collaborative, and direct. I work hard with each couple to provide a respectful, safe atmoshere in which each person feels fully heard and supported. After an initial evaluation, I give couples clear feedback on their areas of strength and areas that need work. Together, we come up with the goals for therapy. Together, we work to create the relationship you want.
