I begin working with people with a meeting where we get to know each other, you can tell me what you would like to get from our work together and I can explain more about how I will be supporting you. It’s a time to ask questions and get some clarity on anything which is holding you back. I offer free 10 minute calls to people unsure if this way of working will be a good fit for them.
I begin all my work with couples with The Gottman Assessments which includes an individual and couples interviews, these are great opportunities to get to know each other, set goals for our working and reveal some of the underlying difficulties which are causing problems.
I have been working with Nonviolent Communication for many years now, in this modality our behaviour, speech and feelings are all our best attempts to meet our most important needs. Sometimes our best attempts get stuck in damaging habits which cause lots of misery, we can learn our way out of them with Gottman exercises and slowing down our process. I work to help clients slow down and help them learn strategies for communicating authentically and kindly so that it is more likely they will get their needs met, doing so often helps their relationships with their partner too.
Sometimes traumatic experiences make it really hard to change our habits, I use Focusing to help clients access their felt sense and Brainspotting to use the visual field to process trauma. Trauma and attachment difficulties can make our current relationships really difficult but by getting to the route of it we can effectively change old habits.
I am person-centred in my work and want to be guided by your unique experiences and what works for you, so I use my training and experiences only to fit with your needs. You are the expert on yourself and your relationship and I am a guide with some tools other people have found very helpful.
