About

My work with couple’s draws upon my experience utilizing evidence- based practices developed by John Gottman and Dan Wile. My approach is very structured, with each session building upon the previous session.

My first session with a couple is focused on the their oral history of their relationship, which includes current and past issues that are causing the couple continued conflict. After the first session I then meet with each partner individually to gather more historic information. Once the individual sessions are completed, I ask each partner to complete an online relationship assessment. Once both partners have completed the assessment, I receive a 60-page summary and analysis report, based on the the completed assessment. The report evaluates the strengths of the relationship and areas that are challenging and causing conflicts within the marriage.

During the third session the couple receives feedback from their online assessment and from their oral history. We begin to map out goals to create a treatment plan that is focused on strengthening the relationship.

In the subsequent sessions, I coach the couple on how to use a specific Gottman intervention / skill that directly relates to a past conflict or a conflict that just occurred in the past week. I encourage couples to practice their new skill at home - together - in between sessions. In the following session we review and evaluate how well the skill worked, and if need be practice the skill again in session.

I often will give home assignments with handouts that are designed to address the issues we are working on that week. As a result new coping skills are developed to effectively navigate and manage the challenges that relationships encounter.

My clients have told me, that they appreciate my process and style, and are often surprised how quickly they begin to feel better about themselves, their partner and the world around them.
